Sissy Screens and the Wheeler Centre join forces for a night of smutty storytelling. A line-up of LGBTQIA+ writers, performers and filthmongers will put a queer and playful spin on fan fiction inspired by iconic books, films and pop culture.
Hosted by Anna Piper Scott, SMUT features readings by Clem Bastow, Margot Tanjutco, Nathan Borg, Nkechi Anele, Tali Polichtuk, Urvi Majumdar &Vyshnavee Wijekumar; salacious performances by Cerulean and Evana De Lune; a screening of the award-winning animated short Are You Still Watching?; and a few saucy surprises.
The Wheeler Centre is an accessible venue. Amplified music and light effects will be used. Gender neutral bathrooms will be available.

From pushy bottoms to macho femmes, this deep dive into the mid-nineties San Francisco dyke leather scene is frank, informative and plenty filthy. Boasting a DIY punk aesthetic, thumping queercore soundtrack and unique access to the scene’s key players, ‘Bloodsisters’ pieces together a bold and celebratory history of a subculture that is still going strong today. Sissy Screens bounced into 2019 with the Australian premiere of Shakedown, a documentary recounting the rise and demise of the Shakedown underground parties founded by and for queer black women in early-aughts Los Angeles.
Drawing from archival footage and contemplative interviews, director Leilah Weinraub chronicles the explicit and energetic performances and personal relationships of the Shakedown family, including Ronnie-Ron, Shakedown Productions’ charismatic creator and emcee; Mahogany, the legendary “mother” of the community; Egypt, their star performer; and Jazmine, the “Queen” of the scene.

For our sophomore screening, Sissy Screens proudly presented Bruce LaBruce’s previously-banned, cult classic Hustler White.
A staple of New Queer Cinema, the film follows a writer who falls in love with a Santa Monica Boulevard hustler while researching a story on LA male sex workers. With nods to Andy Warhol, a homage to ‘Sunset Boulevard’ and a fistful of graphic, fetishistic sex scenes, Hustler White straddles genres and flouts convention. See More

For our inaugural screening, Sissy Screens was proud to serve up Sara Jordenö’s award-winning documentary Kiki followed by a performance by Sydney ballroom legends House of Slé.
Twenty-seven years have passed since Jenny Livingstone’s Paris is Burning shined the spotlight on the Harlem ballroom scene, and Madonna beckoned us to Vogue. While much has changed in the political landscape, the fire still rages for New York’s queer youth of colour who make up the artistic activist movement, Kiki.
Jordenö and co-writer/Kiki matriarch Twiggy Pucci Garçon explore this scene through the eyes of several members of its community, interrogating the world beyond the drops and duck walks.
